Veselý Kosec - specialist in scything
My father taught me to hand-mow with a scythe more than 20 years ago. My parents' garden was very steep, and there was no technique that could be used to mow it safely.
To this day, I still hand-mow with a scythe—not because I cling to tradition, or because I don't have a mower or brushcutter.
I do it because I believe that a well-sharpened scythe is a tool that, even in the 21st century, can compete with modern machines and is easy to work with.
Plus, mowing with a scythe brings the joy of movement.
I would like to share this joy with you.
How did I become a Veselý Kosec?
Around 1999 - I guess that's where I started mowing, when I got my first scythe from my dad and started learning to mow in our family garden under his supervision. Since then I have mowed the garden regularly and occasionally helped my friends.
Year 2004 - With a bunch of friends we started the reconstruction of the hut on Nová cesta, which is now known as the Partizan shelter, near Strelnícka Bukovina.
Around 2008 - The annual event ‘Mowing the back meadows’ with the subtitle ‘Saving the mountain meadows and returning to the tradition of multi-day mowing’ was added to the care of the refuge, which I have not missed since then.
Years 2016 - 2018 - I moved into my own house with a garden and started a family.
Year 2021 - I decided to mow our property, including the lawn, exclusively with a scythe. The experiment continues to this day.
Year 2022 - I discovered the Schrockenfux factory and discovered that there is no scythe like a scythe.
Year 2023 - I founded the e-shop Veselykosec.sk, received the Mowing Teacher's Certificate from the Austrian Mowing Association and held my first mowing courses.
