Austrian scythe FUX

Classic model from the Austrian manufacturer Schröckenfux. The flatter body and tip closer to the ground make this scythe ideal for work in light, flatter terrain. Experienced scythers will also enjoy using it in moderately demanding terrain. The scythe is made of high-quality, extremely malleable steel and holds its edge well. It is easy to sharpen, even for beginners.

What size scythe should you choose?

  • 60 cm - scythe suitable for confined spaces or when it is necessary to avoid obstacles such as trees or stones. Also suitable for shorter, younger or physically weaker mowers.
  • 65 cm - handy scythe, for women and younger mowers, a compromise between 60 and 70 cm.
  • 70 cm - versatile scythe for mowing grass in a wide variety of terrains, suitable for most scythers.
  • 75 cm - for more experienced scythers, a compromise between 70 and 80 cm.
  • 80 cm - scythe suitable for physically fit people for mowing larger areas such as meadows and large gardens in less demanding terrain.
  • 90 cm - professional scythe, for experienced users and sporty mowers.

Austrian FUX scythe - basic features:

Unlike rolled products found in hardware stores, Austrian FUX scythes are hand-forged. They are lighter than conventional scythes (150 g for an 80 cm blade), the material is thinner and they are much easier to peen.

FUX scythe tang with knob

The tang made of solid material is used to attach the scythe to the snath. It is equipped with a knob that fits into a hole in the snath, which prevents the scythe from moving sideways.

Scythe reinforced with a rib

The upper edge of the scythe is reinforced with a rib. This gives the scythe strength and stability and helps throw the cut grass to the side.

Perfectly sharp scythe

The scythe is made from high-quality, extremely malleable steel and holds its edge well. It is easy to sharpen, even for beginners.

Disadvantages of the Austrian FUX scythe:

The complexity of production is reflected in the higher price. However, considering the incomparable quality and long service life of several decades, investing in a high-quality scythe ultimately pays off despite the higher initial costs.

Additional services

Although the scythes leave the factory with a sticker saying mähfertig, i.e. ready for mowing, this is not entirely true. The scythes are machine-peened and coated with a protective varnish.

To ensure that you enjoy mowing and do not waste energy, it is necessary to remove 0.5–1 cm of protective coating along the entire blade on both sides and then hand-peen the scythe.

If you don't want to or don't know how to do this, leave it to us. We will deliver the scythe to you so that you can immediately mow your lawn, garden or meadow.

The Austrian company SCHRÖCKENFUX, founded in 1540, has been manufacturing and exporting high-quality scythes, also known as "Austrian scythes", all over the world for more than 475 years.

Unlike most scythes on the market, which are machine-rolled, SCHRÖCKENFUX scythes are hand-peened from the highest quality steel. Thanks to this precise blacksmithing, the scythes are lightweight, sturdy and stay sharp for a long time. The Austrian FUX scythe is one of the best options for hand mowing lawns or meadows.
