How to choose the right whetstone?

The choice of whetstone depends on your specific needs and the type of work. Fine whetstones, such as Rozsutec, are ideal for sharpening during mowing, when the blade is freshly peened and only needs a gentle smoothing to maintain perfect sharpness. Coarser whetstones, such as La Saurat, are suitable when the blade is not in top condition and a fine whetstone is no longer sufficient. These stones restore the blade more effectively, but remove more material and wear the scythe more significantly. Synthetic Styria is a whetstone specially designed for sharpening bush scythes and is also excellent for repairing damaged blades.

Each type of whetstone has its own specific use, so we recommend having several types on hand to keep your scythe in top condition at all times.
