This natural whetstone, mined in underground galleries, was originally intended for the production of grinding stones for scythes. Nowadays, various models have been adapted for knife sharpening. The stone has a characteristic veined structure, alternating between dark and light areas. The dark parts have a higher abrasive capacity, which ensures faster sharpening, while the light parts are softer and provide gentler contact with the blade. This stone is mainly used when faster and more intensive sharpening is required compared to softer stones such as ‘pierre douce’.
